Raw Water Conduit Rehabilitation Phase II

The Washington Aqueduct is a 100 year old historic brick/stone masonry rubble raw water conduit. The repair specified for the aqueduct was relining utilizing reinforced shotcrete.

ACT utilized several customized pieces of equipment to complete the project including the following: a fully automated mobile shotcrete batch plant to proportion, batch and convey shotcrete into the aqueduct, an automated wire mesh installation machine, and a fully automated shotcrete robot used to accurately and consistently place the 2.5 inch silica fume enhanced shotcrete lining.

Hydroblasting of the aqueduct surface using a 7,000—10,000 psi hydroblaster was performed prior to installation of wire mesh and the shotcrete lining to clean existing surfaces and remove any debris.

Access and ventilation shafts equipped with forced air supply fans and exhaust fans were utilized to ensure compliance within a confined space.
